Dental Implants
An implant is a titanium post which is placed into the jawbone, where a missing tooth used to be. Dental implants with their custom-made crowns, look, feel and function like natural teeth. Dental implants are the best treatment option if replacement of missing teeth is needed. They are long-term replacements and don’t use adjacent teeth as anchors like fixed bridges.
The Dental Implants allow the patient to restore normal masticatory function. They avoid progressive loss of bone because they are placed in the jaws and act as dental roots, restoring bone function. Because they integrate with your jawbone, they help to keep the bone healthy and intact. With conventional dentures, the bone that previously surrounded the tooth begins to disappear.
Dental implants can be used to give retention to a denture, replace a single tooth or replace all teeth.
Give retention to a denture
Especially in the lower jaw a full denture can have very little retention. Placement of 2 implants in the region of the canines and anchorage of the prosthesis to the implants using pressure buttons or a Dolder bar can solve this problem. Also in the upper jaw implants can be used for this reason. The minimum number of implants necessary will be 4 to be able to make a Dolder bar on each side. In the case of 4 implants in the upper jaw we prefer however to make a fixed bridge.
Replace a single tooth
For this procedure, a crown needs to be placed on the implant. The crown will be custom made by the dental laboratory after an impression of the implant inside the mouth has been taken by the dentist.
Have you ever been told you do not have enough bone to fix a dental implant?
At The Hospital Group Spain we offer a therapy of zygomatic implants for patients who suffer atrophy in the facial bones.
The development of the zygomatic implant offers an excellent alternative option for atrophied bones. It is all completed in one surgery and so avoids the use of implants. The rear part of the upper jaw has always been one of the more difficult areas for the correct placement of dental implants because of the scarceity and quality of the bone and the proximity of the maxillary sinus. This is why traditional implants have not been possible.
If a patient has lost bone due to a bone illness or loss of teeth it may be that there is not enough bone to place traditional implants.
The long implant is anchored in the dense part of the bone of the upper jaw and the fixed teeth can be placed 3 days after the surgery.
The implants take 4 months to connect with the bone and when this occurs an acrylic or porcelain bridge can finally be placed.
100% Success
The zygomatic implants offer certain advantages such as the speed of the treatment and the success rate of 100% after 5 years according to scientific studies. If you are not happy with removable dental prosthesis we recommend you consider this option which offers you the opportunity to recover your original dental condition.
