Liposuction

You may already have tried diets and exercise to get rid of excess fat in difficult areas and the rest of your body may be toned. We hear this all the time in our clinic. Liposuction, however is not a weight loss solution, eventhough some patients say that it is easier to lose weight after liposuction. This works on a specific area.

Liposuction is carried out by a specialised cosmetic surgeon who not only extracts the excess fat, but also sculpts and models the area.

Liposuction can be carried out under local anesthetic with sedation or general anesthetic. It depends on the amount of fat to be extracted and from which areas. You may be able to return home the same day or need to stay a night.

We have the latest and most advanced equipment which gives a more precise extraction of fat and leave you better sculpted. In the procedure a “cannula” is connected to a suction machine which extracts precise amounts of fat from an area. After the procedure you will need to wear a special item of clothing designed to reduce the inflamation in the area and help the skin to contract. It is similar to cycling shorts and can be worn under clothing. It is normal that the area inflames and bruises. It depends on each patient and how their body reacts and the amout of fat extracted. In general most of the bruises and swellings disappear in two or three weeks, but it can take longer. Excessive exercise must be avoided for the following six weeks and rest for one to two weeks.

In one procedure various areas may be treated and the most common areas are the tummy, hips and thighs.

Post op the surgeon checks up to make sure the areas are recovering well. Once the bruising and swelling have gone you will feel motivated to do a little exercise to optimise the results. Remember though liposuction is not an excuse to eat and drink excessively after, you should care for your new figure.
